Daily Express British Housebuilder Awards 2005

Daily Express House Builders Awards 2005

At the 2005 Daily Express British Housebuilder Awards ceremony held at The Savoy in London, George Wimpey West Scotland once again received a top accolade - a Silver Award in the large house building category. Having taken the Gold Award in 2002, the George Wimpey region has set exacting standards - which it continues to meet.

The awards are endorsed by the National House-Building Council and the New Homes Marketing Board and are organised and staged by Express Newspapers and sponsored by The Property Search Group.

The awards are a measure of customer service in the new homes market and recognise and reward quality service. Winners are voted on by the customers themselves who are asked to comment on all aspects of their home buying experience - from first contact to post sale follow up.

What House? Awards 2004

George Wimpey City received the Gold award in the Best Partnership Development at the What House? 2004 awards.

The judges' comments were:

A partnership in every sense of the word, with consultation and the desire to provide sustainable, social housing in the London borough of Brent at its core. Hideous high-density concrete blocks came down, and a social and private partnership was formed between George Wimpey City and Metropolitan Housing Trust. Over 350 new homes have now been built. Committees of residents, councillors and developers regularly met, agreeing on detail and provision - a good example to set its neighbour, the new Wembley Stadium.

Social responsibility is as important as the build quality, with signs of vandalism carefully monitored and prompt action taken against anti-social behaviour. The community feel extends to employment as George Wimpey runs the Stadium Training Centre, which provides training and work opportunities for residents.

The imaginative designs and layouts of the development have impressed residents but when they criticised a lack of play areas, the developers listened, and made a commitment to providing these areas in future phases. This is an example of flexible, innovative, proactive and well-funded partnership without compromising on design.

A deserving gold winner!
