Northallerton has a wide High Street servicing the surrounding rural villages.

Market days are Wednesday and Saturday.  Butchers, Bakers and Green Grocers still thrive and there are 2 department stores, several supermarkets and book shops.

There are electrical retailers, clothing shops which sit side by side with banks, estate agents and specialist retailers.

Dining or snacking eateries include traditional fish and chips, indian, chinese and pizza takeaways, as well as cafes, tea rooms, a bistro, restaurants and several pubs.

Schools

Parents in Northallerton have a wide choice of nursery's and primary schools.

There is also a secondary school, Allertonshire Comprehensive.

For further education Northallerton also has a college and a department of health studies at the local Friarage Hospital.

Transport

Northallerton is well served by several bus operators.  There are also daytime services to Bedale, Leyburn, Hawes, Stokesley, Ripon, York and Darlington.

There are also tourist bus services throughout the moors and dales mainly at weekends.  The railway station is about 800 yards of the high street, the station is on the east coast mainline and has a few direct services to London and Edinburgh.

Also there are services to Thirks, Middlesbrough, Darlington and York.

Durham Tees Valley Airport is about 30 minutes drive from Northallerton with scheduled services to Amsterdam and London amongs other destinations.

Northallerton is near to the North/South A19, also the A1 North and South is accessable from the high street, making it easy to drive to all major routes.

Forrester Park is located within the Northallerton Health Services NHS Trust with the Friarage Hospital approx 1 mile away from the high street.

Leisure

Northallerton has fitness and fun to suit everyone.

Hamleton Leisure Centre is 10 minutes drive, it has a swimming pool, wave machine and a slide.

It also has a fully equipped gym, a large hall for badmington and roller skating and an outdoor pitch for football and hockey.

There are also facilities for golf at the Romanby Golf & Country Club.

The outdoor scene offers walks and riding school.

Northallerton has its own Rugby Club and Thirsk Racecourse is a short drive away.
